When this school year started, everybody said pretty much the same thing. We should get children back to school and we should do it safely.
Many pundits on the right never defined what safely meant, just that we should get them back to school “safely. How handhandwoven.
On the other hand, alot of people defined what would be necessary to do this safely, and most of it involved a number of changes (like better sanitation and air filtration) but these cost money, which was allocated by the House buy hot hung up in the Senate.
So stop acting like it’s a problem or a “flip-flop” that Fauci says kids should be in school, and start prioritizing getting kids back to school.
Again, as a community: prioritize schools. Make them safe for teachers and students. Guarantee health care for all teachers so they can be out if necessary, and if they get sick, that they can stay and home and be treated. ( Yes, pay them to stay home if they are sick)
In addition to shouldering the financial burden, let’s take up the social burden. Let’s make reducing spread a priority. Make the sacrifices necessary that our children can be safe, and educated and have a bright future instead of throwing them back into classrooms during high community spread.
We can’t have it all, no matter what we want, so let’s make some choices about what’s really important. And I’d rather have well-educated next generation as opposed to going to a movie or a concert or a football game.
Stop fighting to hold on to the past, and start fighting for a better future.
